Meet Our Founder
DIRECTOR & PROJECT MANAGER, ERIK HUNTER
Erik has been a professional carpenter since 2018 and quickly discovered his passion for business as well as carpentry. His maternal heritage is of the Stoney Nakoda First Nations (specifically Goodstoney First Nation, fka Wesley) and his paternal heritage is Sri Lankan. His surname is matronymic and connects him to his family in Mînî Thnî (Cold Water), Alberta. The ‘Hunter’ surname can be translated to ‘Yameyetha’ in Îethka (Stoney) and bears connection to the renowned stories of Sioux Peoples as ‘headhunters.’ Erik deeply values his role within Indigenous communities and takes the mantra of thinking for the next seven generations seriously, embedding this principle into the core values of his company.
Sioux Projects was born in 2022 and gained traction while Erik continued his Red Seal training at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) which he completed in 2023. Erik is a member of the Homebuilders Association of Vancouver (HAVAN) as a professional renovator and is a current committee member of the Urban Indigenous Advisory Committee with the City of Vancouver. Sioux Projects is also a proud member of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business, and shares in their mission to promote, strengthen, and enhance a prosperous Indigenous economy through the fostering of business relationships, opportunities, and awareness for all of their members.

Testimonials

"I felt very lucky to find Erik who was willing to take on a small job. Erik has great communications skills, a very respectful sincere manner. As a senior I am always looking for reliable, skilled professionals at a reasonable price and I found one! I have recommended Sioux Projects Ltd. to friends."

"Erik is a pleasure to work with. We've done two projects with Erik, one minor and one major. He came in on-budget and the quality of work was outstanding. The budget was hefty for both projects but I think that's the nature of construction in 2024. Regardless, we appreciate Erik and his team at Sioux!"
